The Problem
Did you know that a brand new Aldi just opened (March 22nd, 2012) in Little Elm? Maybe one day I'll visit there, but for now, I'd like to see why the Walmart on Loop 288 in Denton announced that they will not price match to Aldi.....(phone call to Walmart)
The Answer
....I just got off the phone with a very polite, very helpful customer service agent at the Loop 288 Walmart in Denton. When I told her that last week, a cashier told me that a manager instructed her (and other checkers) to not price match to Aldi--she got on the phone with the daytime "CSM" (I'm not sure what that stands for, but I think it's the equivalent of a manager) named Sheelah. Sheelah said that they do, in fact, price match to Aldi because of the new store. Before 3 weeks ago, the closest store was in Frisco, which is 18 miles away from the Loop 288 Walmart in Denton, just outside their 15-mile price matching radius. So, the confusion is understandable.
What to do if you're questioned about Aldi
I asked what would be the proper thing to do if I have a well-meaning checker tell me that they don't honor Aldi's ad. She said "tell them that Sheelah, the daytime manager, said that because of the new store in Little Elm, they do price match to Aldi."
Aldi's Back!
There you have it. Aldi is back! Good thing, too, because this week they have the best prices on cantaloupes, pineapples, strawberries, pears, and mangos...
