  1. Saturday night around 1am. Yes, it was late and I don't think I will go this late again. We had the worst experience ever. I had a checkout lady on University (Rayzor Ranch) be more difficult than I have ever expereinced and didn't know if this was common and this was just my first time or was this borderline harrassment.

She had me show her almost every item in my basket where the ad was. She said if it was over a $1.00 savings she had to see the ad. Well she did for a few and I was fine, but then when I felt she was then asking for every item, I felt a little harrassed. I could prove every item (but one because it was an ongoing deal at Kroger but not in the ad). So I told her that was fine to pull it and i would buy it at Kroger. I felt she was trying to prove something and I'm not sure what 1) that I was cheating her (and i wasn't) 2) that it's a pain in the butt or 3) not to price match again.

When it came to the coupons, she took them all and returned 3 to me. I corrected her on one so now I was returned 2 coupons. i knew I did a better job in couting so I pulled out my stuff to prove I wasn't handing her more coupons than I should have. And I had to tell her that she didn't charge me for one item. So I asked her to charge me for the item and then accept my coupon.

I definately am an honest person and not trying to cheat the system, but I left upset and feeling a little harrassed when there are people just waiting for me to find each item in each of the 5 different ads. I'm glad I had the ads that day.

Then she told me that they would not accept the Kroger $.50 off because it was a gimmick. I asked her what was the gimmic. I had just spent $80 earlier this week and got every one of my $.50 off.

I think it was just her trying to prove herself but wanted to know if you had experienced this before. Sad thing, is I was with someone showing her how to pricematch and had to deal with a NIGHTMARE!!!!

It took us about 1 hour or more to check out. It was crazy.

    1. I'm so sorry. It sounds awful!

Here are a couple of thoughts--1.) I think the manager at the store should really hear about your experience. If you can remember your checker's name, I think you should tell the manager (and if you can't remember, I've been told that it is printed on the bottom of your receipt, if you still have it).

When I have spoken with managers in the past about sour experiences, they have often asked for the checker's name, so that they can further train that cashier to correctly execute those situations.

2.) It is possible, though I highly doubt it, that that particular Walmart has instituted some new rules--like when you mentioned the savings of greater than $1, or disallowing the "when you buy x-number of items" deals from Kroger or Albertsons. A manager or customer service could confirm or deny this.

3.) If you have a similar experience in the future, I would suggest asking for a manager right there in the check out line. They can clear up anything that the cashier might be doing in error, or any nuance of the ad match policy that we might have been misinterpreting. I know it can seem very confrontational to ask for a manager, but because the manager is where the bucks stops, it might save you and the checker a very long headache.

I have only had one experience that was similar to yours. It was about a month ago, and not nearly so nightmare-ish as the one you had. It was out at Loop 288, and it was partly my fault (my phone--which had my list--died just as I started checking out, so I was doing everything from memory).

In any case, I'm sorry it was such a terrible time. I hate to see honest people being treated like crooks, especially when you're trying so hard to keep it by the book.

Call the manager--not to tattle(of course), but to ensure that that horrible experience isn't repeated. I think if we price match long enough, everyone runs into a terrible time once in a while. It doesn't lessen the embarrasment, and I doubly sorry that it happened while you had a friend there you!
